Reading encourages children’s imaginations to grow, and opens their world view to include new people, places, circumstances and opportunities. Reading books about difficult topics, such as limb differences or limb loss difference, is a safe and impactful way to introduce children to the concept. Books like these will help children with limb difference or limb loss build greater self-esteem as they can relate to characters that “look like me or are different like me.” They will be encouraged to talk openly about their limb difference and answer questions from friends.

It's Children's Mental Health Week! Did you know? One in six children aged five to 16 were identified as having a probable mental health problem in July 2020, a huge increase from one in nine in 2017. That’s five children in every classroom. We've come up with a list of 10 feel good fiction books that may help provide the escapism a middle grader or young adult may need to provide respite for the real world.
