The Inspiration Behind Happier Every Chapter

Many children lack access to diverse and inclusive books that reflect the world around them. This can make reading less engaging for some children and leave families, schools and libraries with limited access to stories that celebrate different cultures, identities and experiences. Happier Every Chapter was created to help solve this problem through carefully curated children's book subscriptions for ages 0–14, promoting reading for pleasure while helping every child feel seen, valued and represented.

Welcome to Happier Every Chapter!
Pictured above are Kirsten and Aiyven, the First Ever Young Female Leads. They are how our story started. Voracious readers & talented writers, with a bit of a thing for getting others to catch the bug too☺. Sagas of Anya by Kirsten & Land Of The Nurogons by Aiyven are their debut novels which came to be as entries to the 2019 BBC 500 Words writing competition. Not to be deterred because they didn't win, they turned our entries into middle-grade novels, published in April 2020 with the help of a Kickstarter campaign.

You may have watched their YouTube book reviews or seen them on Channel 4, Steph's Packed Lunch, BBC Look East, Northampton Chronicle & Echo, Daily Express, Daily Mirror, The Strategist, The Independent, The WeekJnr magazine or even Disney

In marketing their books, we realised there was a gap in the market for children's book subscriptions with diverse and inclusive books which also keeps reluctant and struggling readers. This is how the idea of Happier Every Chapter, a book subscription box for kids 0-14 was borne.

Our dream? The vision? To help schools and families nurture the skill and will to read for pleasure while developing a solid global outlook. Thanks to the subscribers and schools making Happier Every Chapter, their go-to for inclusive and value-rich children's bestsellers.

WHAT WE DO

Our Mission: Promoting Diverse Literature for Children

Sagas of Anya by K. Mbawa

What would you do if you had to become a maid at thirteen working for a nasty housekeeper? After her mam dies, 12yr old Anya watches as her once loving tad turns to drink. Things hit a new low the next year and Anya is forced to travel from Victorian Cardiff to London to become a scullery maid at Tippets House, under the watchful eye and cruel hand of Mrs. Axton.

Spirited and bright, Anya makes friends and some enemies too. Will she survive and find a loving place to belong again or will this life of drudgery be forever? Anya's story will grab you and keep you until the last word.

Fans of historical fiction will not be able to put this down. If you loved Hetty Feather, you will be a huge fan of Sagas of Anya

Land of the Nurogons by A. Mbawa

I, Hayden Smith, never considered myself to be the ‘chosen one’. I thought I was your average high school kid. But, no, of course I was completely wrong. And I have a sneaking suspicion that however much I tried to avoid my fate, I’d end up in the same place, Nurogonia.

And now a bloke called Sosiri plans to turn the world of Nurogonia into something unimaginable. If he succeeds, we’re all dead. It’s my problem to prevent that. All those deaths would be on my hands. And if I fail? Oh, never mind, I won’t be alive to find out.

Love middle-grade fantasy? Harry Potter? Percy Jackson? You'll love this! Join Hayden & co on a jounrey that will not be easy to forget.

THE JOURNEY. THE TEAM. THE COMMUNITY.

THE JOURNEY

Did you know that:
📚1 in 5 children enter secondary school without being able to read properly?
📚9 million adults in the UK are functionally illiterate?
📚Only 8% of children's books published in 2020 had an ethnic minority main character?

From March 2019 when the book reviews started to April 2020 when our books were published up until now, there's been a steady growth in our community telling of the need for better literacy outcomes by getting more children to read for pleasure.

As well as the boxes, we carry out book reviews on Facebook and YouTube & where possible the author(s) whose books have been featured in one of our monthly boxes will be invited for a Live Author Interview to chat about their book.

THE TEAM. THE COMMUNITY

Happier Every Chapter is very much a family business. We are grateful to have parents who support our passion enough to help us grow the idea to what it is today. We are the creative side; writing short stories, doing school talks, helping to curate books and gifts while Mum & Dad run the business side teaching us a few things along the way😊.

Support for our books, Happier Every Chapter & our virtual author visits has been phenomenal. For that, we cannot say enough thanks.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions or comments and we will do our best to help. Contact us on +44 (0)7949 820 944 or hello@happiereverychapter.com
