How Curated Book Bundles Close the Representation Gap
Children read more when they see themselves in the books in front of them, yet for many children from minority ethnic backgrounds, the stories on their shelves rarely reflect their faces, families, or experiences. Happier Every Chapter builds book bundles and curated collections to close that gap directly, putting representation ahead of random selection.
Why Curation Matters More Than Volume
Our UK-based team builds every bundle around a specific theme, such as identity, confidence, or belonging, pairing established authors with emerging voices so a reader engages with an idea across several books rather than once. This is the same principle behind our class sets for schools, where the goal is the right books in the right sequence, not just more books on a shelf.
Barclaycard: Closing the Gap in Northampton
Barclaycard partnered with Happier Every Chapter to donate 100 inclusive books each to Parklands Primary, Chiltern Avenue Primary, and Northampton International Academy, after a needs assessment against each school's Ofsted report identified gaps in reading fluency, SEND and EAL support, and early years language development. At Parklands, Assistant Head Georgie Robinson said the donation "strengthened our Equality & Diversity book library" and helped stock a reading vending machine that rewards pupil engagement across every class.

Northampton High School GDST: A Library That Keeps Evolving
Since September 2022, Northampton High School GDST has received regular bundles of diverse and inclusive books for its Junior School library. Emily Hair, Head of the Junior School, said the partnership means "staff are reassured that we are able to ensure we are regularly updating our book collection to improve the diversity of the offer," alongside pupils reading books that "open their hearts and minds".

So what exactly counts as a curated book bundle? It's a themed collection built around one idea, like identity or belonging, rather than a random stack of titles.
Whether you need a one-time boost, a regular class set, or a monthly subscription, there's a model that fits.
